This is a limited edition print commissioned exclusively for Selfidges in London in 1977 for Queen Elizabeth II Silver Jubilee celebrations for use around the store on the internal pillars. The prints were never used as the design theme was altered at the last minute.

Feliks Toposlki 1907-1989

 

Born in Warsaw in 1907 and studied art at the Warsaw Academy of Art. He first arrived in London in 1935 and his first commissions were as a newspaper and journal illustrator. He remained in London for the next 54 years and he lead a highly eventful life and became an established figure in the London literary and artistic scene. He was recognised as one of the great war artists and published three books of wartime drawings. He became a British citizen in 1947 by which time he had also established himself as a portrait artist. He portrayed many world leaders and international figures and he was an official artist at the coronation of Elizabeth II in 1953. He was a member of the Royal Academy and his works are to be seen in the British Museum, Victoria and Albert Museum, Imperial War Museum, The Tate and many other galleries throughout the world.
